The chronological narrative enables students to identify change and consistencies under each ruling dynasty, while Persia’s rich social, cultural, religious and economic history is also woven throughout to present a complete picture of life in Medieval Persia. Despite the turbulent backdrop, which saw Persia ruled by a succession of groups who had seized power by military force, arts, painting, poetry, literature and architecture all flourished in the period.

This new edition contains a new epilogue which discusses the significant literature of the last 28 years to provide students with a comprehensive overview of the latest historiographical trends in Persian history. Not much changed from the 1st edition, but valuable for uderstanding Shi'ism in Iran. Very useful essay on sources.

This is a 2nd edition, and seems to be not much rewritten save the introduction, and a quite excellent "Epilogue" that is really an essay on sources, mostly published since the first edition of Morgan's book came out.

He considers that "medieval" really is appropriate for Persia in the era the book covers, that the fury of modernization did not significantly affect Persia until the 19th century. It's a complex history reflective of the 1980s when the original came out, lots od conquerors and rulers and some analysis of how the place was run, and wars and murders, but not much of what more recent histories concern themselves with: Morgan's book contains modest social history, very little about the common folk and little about women (save that a few were somewhat powerful through the institution of the harem, which was much more than a collection of the ruler's consorts). There's not much about the environment, either.

The book does a good job of giving a reader a sense of complexity and near-chaos. Most importantly he describes the rise of the Shi'a form of Islam and in particular the role of several Shahs in its becoming the dominant for of Islam in Persia. That alone is worth reading about, because it is fundamental to understanding 21st century Iran.

I love this book

I love this book. It's smart, punchy, interesting and it makes connections between songs and popular culture that are really interesting. The writing is funny, and you can read it in snipets so even though it keeps you engaged, you don't have to read it cover to cover (even though that'd be easy to do). It's for the music geek in all of us, but you don't have to know all the songs he talks about to enjoy it. there is always one song that you know and can hum in your head while you read about it. It's a lot of fun. I encourage everyone interested in music, numbers, pop culture, or just fun reading to give it a try.

Beautiful! Great color printing job. I loved the cover: it is divided in half down the center so when the book is opened it's like opening the front doors to a cathedral. A great accompanying book to "Messages of Glory."

Stunning book!

This is a stunning book for anyone interested in angels and their place in major works of art and literature throughout time. The fold out pages are like having your own sanctuary for prayer and mediatation! The artwork is beautifully reproduced and is the true focus, but much information regarding angels, based on those who intimately know/knew them is a special bonus. This book is one of those gems that has to be seen; words just can't adequately convey the beauty and inspiration contained within it!

Angels are mentioned numerous times in the old testament. Angels also played an important role in the life of Jesus. They are mentioned 13 times in the gospels. And Jesus said a good deal about angels; 12 times. . . . . So I searched for a book befitting these glorious spirits. Not cherubs or talisman beings. But rather the virtuous hierarchal heavenly hosts.

There are untold numbers of various books about all sorts of things Angelic. Alot of it new age communications. Other which propose to "know" the detailed analysis of the specific nature of angels (sure).

Then I found this gem. An elegant book with hundreds of clear large reproductions. From old masters to contemporary artists: Caravaggio, Raphael, Titian, Botticinis, Kandinsky, Klee, Chagal, Thayer, Jin,. and dozens more. The list of artists is incredible.

You get what you pay for

This volume is a nice way to start getting interested in Native American rock symbols that can be found in the southwest. It's a convenient size for hiking trips, or just to carry around if you live in the region. But it's also small enough to lose in a pile of matches. It's slightly informative, you must remember that not a lot is actually known about the meaning of the rock symbols, and this volume is not the defining one when it comes to the intricacies of reading rock symbols. It is enough to get the basics down. There are better works out there for the serious enthusiast, but if you're just trying to enjoy a vacation more, then yeah, get this and throw it in your pocket.

So there I was hiking through the Galapagos Island's on my Honeymoon and all I could think about was where can I find a place to sit down and continue reading 'Far Horizons'.
I'm actually serious..
Like many of those born in the Y Generation, I have a rather short attention span and reading a book that's over 500 pages seems like the impossible but I must admit, I was sad when I turned to the last page, I wanted more.

I've read every motorcycle travel book i could get my hands on and I must say, this is the best one i've read yet!!
The writing style has an amazing flow to it and it has great storytelling. Its a great read and I want more!

I loved the book. Having traveled many of the miles that Andy did, it was interesting to hear the thoughts of someone who has never seen them before. I enjoyed Andy's style, it was like sitting over coffee or a beer and having a great chat with him.

this book presents a wide list of plasticers,
unfortunately seems that most of the presente information is from patent literature rather than "practical sources".
that means most of the mentioned plasticizers do not exist commercially.
additionally, in case of PVC, surely the "more lsrgely plasticized" polymer, formulations are at least 20 years old or even obsolete.

I do not suggest to purchase it,
it's not worth his price
